Mungklor (Hlong: Mùŋklɔ) was a kingdom on the northeastern Nkungu coast lasting between 2330 to 2734 CY. The kingdom was founded after the Hlong Rebellion led by Buul Japal in 2332 CY, years after the Bosso Empire's collapse. Mungklor is noted for being the only known Hlong state in history.

Etymology

Mungklor's name was coined by its first king, Buul Japal, combining the Hlong name Mùn of the Bosso war deity Umɔ̀nɔ̀ with the Hlong word klɔ, meaning "town". Although Mungklor was the official name of the kingdom as proposed by Buul Japal, few written accounts also refer to Mungklor by alternative Hlong names like Ku-Japàlal ("land of Japal"), Ku-Kɔbamal ("land of the revolt"), or the Nyamu exonym Ṣoŋoŋkù ("land of the Hlong")

History

Soon after the exile of Bagaruka II and the subsequent collapse of the Bosso Empire, the four Ajukayans of the former empire declared their provinces as nations of their own, each claiming their kingdoms to be the true continuation of the Bosso Empire. The contention between the newly founded kingdoms provoked a growing sentiment among the lower-class Hlong population, majority of which resided in Bosso-Kafue, to establish their own ethnic nation seperate from the four Nyamu kingdoms. The urge among the Hlong people to establish a nation of their own eventually climaxed, bringing about the Hlong Rebellion. The Hlong Rebellion was a string of insurrections taking place between 2328 CY and 2331 CY, culminating to the final revolt in 2332 CY. Former priest Buul Japal became a major facilitator of the rebellion, forming a militia in 2329 CY to control and defend the Hlong-majority towns of northern Bosso-Kafue. After a two-year long struggle with Bosso-Kafue, the northern territory which Buul Japal's militia presided over was now declared to be the kingdom of Mungklor.
