Due to his name and wealth, he, and later by extension his clan, were referred to as "the eternal gem of the north".

Etymology

Cóbson's name literally means "gem workhorse", from the Classical Doccábh words cóibe /ko:ˈβʲe/ "gem" and son /son/ "workhorse, donkey".
