Airreann or plural airrenin (AH-rən, AH-rə-nin; Classical Doccábh Áirreann, Áirrenin /ˈa:rʲˑəˌn̩/, /ˈa:rʲˑəˌnʲinʲ/) was a title used historically by various rulers of Doccábh lands, as well as some Vahtyic rulers. Early historical and mythological sources present an unbroken line of succession of airrenin, although this is directly ahistorical - multiple airrenin existed simultaneously throughout the time of its historical use, and none considered each other to be "false" airrenin in any way. These sources generally consider the Fúigimic kingdom to be the origin of the role. The title originally held strong religious and mythological importance, especially during the aristocratic and regal periods, but by the time of the Quinquevirate the title had become more of a generic term for a leader, sometimes being applied to important foreign rulers. In the modern day, it is only used by the Vahtyic government.
