Dhimrai has a multi-party political system: one in which the number of competing political parties is sufficiently large as to make it almost inevitable that, in order to participate in the exercise of power, any single party must be prepared to negotiate with one or more others with a view to forming electoral alliances and/or coalition agreements.

The party system has changed and evolved over the course of its history, and currently the two major parties are:

  • the Democracy Party, which holds more conservative views in most aspects and is popular with land owners and the aristocracy. Most governments until the Copper War were led by it.
  • the Liberal Party, which is more liberal and in favor of a freer market. It has been the leading party since the end of the Copper War.

Within the Lartema of Dhimrai, representatives are grouped by party and seated from left to right. On the right wing are parties which are generally more in support of the monarchy and status quo, whereas on the left wing are parties which are against the monarchy. To avoid confusion, these are hereafter referred to as status quo and anti-monarchy.
