Four Seas

The Four Seas (sometimes called the Five or Six Seas; see § Terminology) is a geopolitical and cultural region of the world named after the four major seas it consists of: the Bhayuruka Sea, the Verethian Strait, the Triangle Sea and the Broad Sea. It represents the border between the continents of Ashnan, Yazland, Etzavaz and Nkungu. The region possesses major cultural significance, being viewed as the birthplace of civilization and one of the most influential regions of the world throughout history.

The Four Seas region has a varied climate, ranging from humid tropical to semi-arid and even arid in some places. [TBD]

Terminology

The term "Four Seas" traces its origins back to Classical Antiquity, with the earliest known instance of the term being from an account circa 1750 CY by Bakso of Umqakra stating:

[I] have travelled the Four Seas and seen (...) a thousand peoples, luxurious temples, wealthy kingdoms (...)

The term came to be used to refer not just to the seas themselves, but also to the regions of land that border them. [TBD]

Later models have proposed the expansion of the region to five or even six seas, which would include the Bhachiaka Sea and the Narrow Sea, though the latter is often considered to be a subregion of the greater Broad Sea. Some sources even include the (unnamed sea between Cicex and the RSS).

Language

The five top languages, in terms of numbers of speakers, are Tschintierst, Dhimze, Dirhassian, Erayi and Hashdezi. Tschintierst and Dhimze belong to the Yasgan language family, whereas Dirhassian, Hashdezi and Erayi belong to the Ashno-Verethian language family. About 15 other languages are also spoken around the Four Seas.

Tschintierst, with all its dialects, is the most widely spoken language in the Four Seas, serving as the official language of Tschintiessteiss and the rest of the Gintem Confederation. (TBD). It is a member of the Tschintieric branch of the Yasgan languages. (something about Low Tschintierst maybe). Other Tschintieric languages such as Rirsheic, Soderic and Vrishtic are also spoken in the region.

Dhimze is the second most spoken language. While a large portion of its native speakers is scattered across Dhimrai's various current and former colonies, it has long been a prestige language across northern Yazland and the rest of the region. It belongs to the Dhimzic branch of the Yasgan languages, of which its only living relative is Gharzi.

Dirhassian is the third-most widely spoken language. While it is largely confined to the Oldirian Union, the country is one of the region's largest and most populous. It is an Ashno-Verethian language of the Eastern Verethian branch. While there are no other living Eastern Verethian languages, Dirhassian has many living relatives in other Verethian branches, such as Hashdezi, Agisian and Vezdali of the Western Verethian branch and Cernian of the Cernic branch.

Erayi, the fourth-most widely spoken language, is spoken in various forms across the Eranosphere. (TBD). It is an Ashno-Verethian language of the Ashno-Angkat branch. Other minority Ashno-Angkat languages are also spoken in the region, such as Sakhi.

Religion

The Four Seas are home to many of the world's largest religions. In order of number of followers, the main ones are Kunwidya, Yasgan religion and Tohadal. There are also other smaller religions practiced in the region.
